Magnolia ‘Goldstar’ is an exceptional stellata-type Magnolia bred by the renowned Magnolia breeder Phil Savage. This award-winning variety features excellent hardiness and frost-tolerant flowers that bloom in March/April – about 2 weeks after other Magnolia stellata hybrids – so they are less vulnerable to late frosts. Forming a broadly pyramidal tree as it matures, it makes a superb specimen tree for the smaller garden. Exquisite in colour and shape, the buds emerge soft yellow, unfurling into lightly fragrant, starry flowers, 10cm across, each with 14 slender tepals. The blooms gradually fade to creamy white. Magnolia ‘Goldstar’ also features attractive spring foliage that emerges with lovely bronze tints before maturing to mid-green. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 7m (23ft). Spread: 5m (16ft).
