This pretty Candytuft is tougher than it looks, withstanding poor soils, and exposed coastal positions. Compared to traditional Iberis, this Gibraltar Candytuft is extremely free flowering, bearing clusters of lilac blooms from May to June. Iberis gibraltarica has a low growing habit that forms evergreen clumps of linear foliage. A superb perennial for alpine gardens and rockeries or creating ground cover at the front of borders. Height: 15cm (6″). Spread: 30cm (12″).
Culinary note: Both the leaves and flowers of candytuft can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to that of a sweet broccoli. For more details about edible flowers click here.
