Hydrocharis morsus ranae is a useful floating aquatic providing valuable shade and cover for wildlife. The rounded leaves of Frogbit, resembling tiny water lilies, grow to just 2cm in diameter. This delightful British native perennial spread by runners, constantly send up new plants to form an olive-green raft of foliage. This makes it perfect for any size of water feature – from patio pools to large garden ponds!
Throughout summer, small white flowers appear above the water surface while the crown of the plant and its roots are suspended below. As Autumn progresses, the plants die back to resting buds, which sink to the bottom of the pond over winter and rise again in spring. Height: 2.5cm (1″). Spread: 100cm (39″). Planting depth: Zone 5 floating on water surface.
