An RHS AGM variety with superb garden performance! Grape ‘Purpurea’ is grown as much for its ornamental value as for it deep purple fruits. The lobed green foliage creates superb, leafy cover for a bare wall, and turns to dark shades of crimson and purple in autumn. It looks particularly effective against brick or stone walls.
Racemes of green flowers in summer are followed by an autumn crop of small fruits. Due to their thicker skins and pips they are not the best choice for eating straight from the vine, however they do make excellent jellies and juice. Also a great choice for adding to autumn flower arrangements and table displays! Height of cordon trained vine: 1.8m (6′). Spread of cordon trained vine: 1.5m (5′). Untrained plants may reach up to 8m (26′).
