Even small gardens can enjoy the marvellous foliage and aroma of Eucalytpus with this petit French cultivar. Whilst Eucalyptus gunnii grows 2 metres every year, leave Eucalyptus ‘France Bleu’ unpruned and it will only reach a maximum of 2 metres. A regular trim in early spring will keep it even smaller and preserve the beautiful juvenile foliage: rounded, silvery-blue, evergreen leaves which seem to sparkle in the sun. Left unpruned, the leaves will become sage-green and sickle-shaped.
This miniature variety makes a wonderful specimen for a patio container where its foliage beautifully enhances other flowering plants, hence its popularity as a long-lasting filler for vase displays. In late summer, the pungently scented leaves are accompanied by clusters of pom-pom blooms which are a magnet for bees. Superbly drought tolerant, Eucalyptus ‘France Bleu’ will shake off summer heatwaves and makes a lovely foliage specimen for Mediterranean gardens, courtyards and coastal gardens. Height: 2-2.5m (6’6”- 8’2”ft) Spread: 2-3m (6’6”- 9’10”ft).
