Upright racemes of clove-scented, white flowers adorn this suckering shrub from late summer to autumn above a dense bush of glossy leaves with serrated edges. The fragrant flowers are irresistible to pollinators, especially butterflies. They are followed by dark brown fruits which often persist through winter. Clethra alnifolia is a useful plant for shady woodland borders in acid soil where it will flower abundantly in part shade. The leaves often turn strong shades of yellow in autumn. Height and spread: 1.5–2.5 metres (5-8ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
