Not all Clematis are summer flowerers and not all are climbers! This collection of rare and unusual clematis includes varieties which will entertain you with beautiful flowers even in the darkest months of the year, as well as a variety for the height of summer. And this versatile selection will not only give you climbers to scramble over fences and walls but also a bushy herbaceous type which will sit beautifully alongside other perennial plants in a sunny border.
Clematis All Season Collection contains one of the following:
- Clematis ‘Advent Bells’ – This astonishing new clematis is not only reliably evergreen and thoroughly hardy but will shower you with dainty blooms from November through to January. The nodding, cup-shaped flowers of Clematis ‘Advent Bells’ are creamy-white outside, with showy, red-speckled markings inside, and a prominent cluster of stamens. Plant it close to your home where the winter flowers can be best appreciated. Height: 5m (15’). Spread: 3m (10’). Pruning group: 1.
- Clematis napaulensis – This rare and unusual clematis is a stunning sight in winter when it is covered in large clusters of greenish-cream nodding bell-like flowers with striking purple anthers. These winter blooms release a delicate perfume, and are followed by large, fluffy seedheads which persist into the spring. Originating from Nepal and parts of China, Clematis napaulensis is cloaked in lush foliage from autumn to early summer, followed by a period of summer dormancy when it sheds its leaves. This low maintenance Clematis requires no routine pruning, and is invaluable for brightening the dull winter months. Height: 3m (9′) or more, depending on growing conditions and maturity. Spread: 1.5m (5′). Pruning group: 1.
- Clematis ‘Winter Beauty’ – This superb evergreen clematis bears its delicate, waxy, bell-shaped flowers in the depths of winter. The foliage is so lush, that you’ll think it’s summertime all year round! Plant Clematis ‘Winter Beauty’ against a warm house wall so that you can appreciate its winter flowers from your window. This sought after variety will appreciate a sheltered site with some winter protection. Height: 4m (13′). Spread: 1.2m (4′). Pruning Group: 1.
- Clematis ‘New Love’ – This herbaceous clematis forms a self-supporting, bushy mound which in summer is covered in star-shaped, indigo blooms with slender, reflexed petals and a lovely sweet fragrance. It is perfect for bulking up borders among tall perennials such as Lupins, Foxgloves, and Delphiniums. Height: 90cm (35″). Spread: 50cm (20″). Pruning group: 3.
