This groundcover perennial is valued for its autumn colour, adding interest to borders just when other plants are beginning to fade. Unusually for a perennial, it not only bears colourful flowers, but vivid autumn foliage too.
Ceratostigma plumbaginiodes forms a low-growing, spreading plant composed of wiry red stems clothed in bright green, oval leaves. From late summer to autumn, it bears clusters of gentian blue flowers of a vivid intensity rarely seen amongst perennials. At the same time, the leaves take on bronze tints, maturing to deep red before falling in autumn.
Drought tolerant once established, it provides attractive ground cover in dry sunny spots such as cascading over a low wall or along the front of borders. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 30cm (12in). Spread: 45cm (18in).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
