One of the ‘Jack Frost’ series of super-hardy hybrid Japanese Acers, Acer x pseudosieboldianum ‘Ice Dragon’ tolerates much colder temperatures than other Japanese Acers and is well-suited to harsh northerly gardens. A cross between Acer Pseudosieboldianum (False Siebolds Maple), from whom it inherits its resistance to extreme cold, and the Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum), from which it gains its elegant branch structure and foliage colour, it will cope with exposed UK gardens providing its roots enjoy good drainage.
A small Acer with horizontally spreading branches, developing a form which is much wider than tall. The finely dissected, deeply-lobed leaves open orange in spring, mature to green over summer, and then deliver an autumnal finale of brilliant yellow, orange and red shades. Height: 3m (10ft). Spread: 5m (16.5ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
